CDS Deadline Approaches 
 
The CDS deadlines are looming. Going by the current schedule, CHIEF will be withdrawn in two stages: 
 
After 30 September 2022, you won’t be able to make import declarations on CHIEF 
 
After 31 March 2023, you won’t be able to make export declarations on CHIEF 
 
HMRC recently sent letters to 220,000 GB VAT registered traders and although not all of them will be importers and or exporters, and many will use the services of a broker or forwarder, this communication is indicative of the lack of awareness – and lack of preparedness – for the impending move 
 
Port of Liverpool - Strike Action Confirmed 
 
Unite the Union has confirmed strike action is to take place at the Port of Liverpool between 06:00 Monday 19 September and 06:00 Monday 3 October. 
 
The move is designed to disrupt operations at the UK container port after a pay package of 8.3% was rejected by the union, and following demands for greater pay increases.

UK GOVERNMENT WILL NOT INTRODUCE SPS AND S&S IMPORT CONTROLS ON EU GOODS ON 1 JULY 2022 
 
The remaining import controls on EU goods will no longer be introduced this year, the government has announced. 
 
Instead, traders will continue to move their goods from the European Union to Great Britain as they do now.

South China port disruptions ‘could extend to Christmas’ 
 
Dwell times at the major ports in and around the south China city of Shenzhen “remain disruptively high”, despite trending downward in recent days with the Port of Yantian at full capacity again, according to freight visibility platform Project44. 
 
It said the data suggests that disruptions related to China’s COVID-19 quarantine efforts could extend well into the year, impacting seasonal shipments as far out as Christmas.

P&O FERRIES’ DOVER-CALAIS FLEET BACK TO FULL STRENGTH AS FIFTH SHIP SETS SAIL ON RETURN TO SERVICE 
 
The Pride of Burgundy – P&O Ferries fifth ship on its Dover-Calais route – arrived yesterday at the Port of Dover, returning to service with its first sailing in over a year. 
 
With capacity to carry 120 lorries, the 28,000-ton Pride of Burgundy will return in freight-only mode, making two return journeys each day. The addition of a fifth ship comes in response to growing demand from British and European customers and will expand options for those requiring rapid and reliable transportation of goods between pivotal markets.
